Catherine Whelan, our Licensed Massage therapist, recently attended training in the course Somato Emotional Release 2. It is the fourth course in the foundations of CranioSacral Therapy (CST) through the Upledger Institute. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands on method of working with the body. It uses light touch to work with the craniosacral system, which is the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and the spinal cord. Somato Emotional Release 2, along with the three previous courses, has been life changing for Catherine and her work as a body therapist. CST believes that each person has an infinite body wisdom that can ultimately heal whatever may arise through their life. Sometimes in our lives things happen that make self healing difficult, this is where a CS therapist can provide resources to help connect the client to their inner wisdom.
Somato Emotional Release 2 taught Catherine how to listen to a client’s body and follow the body’s wisdom. Through the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), she continually checks in with the client’s body to stay true to its own treatment plan. This work empowers each client to understand their own body better and take the reins of their own healing. Sometimes the sessions include therapeutic imagery and dialogue which can be helpful to shift stuck belief systems stored in the body. These techniques have been especially successful when working with clients who have experienced trauma, whether that is physical or emotional.
This work continually surprises Catherine when both giving and receiving. She is amazed by the wisdom of our bodies; if only we take the time and space to listen to them we can function at a higher level. This work is hard to explain on paper and is much better understood through experience. Take this chance to experience CST and learn more about your body at Ideal Chiropractic and Therapeutic Massage.
