Winter seems to be officially here to stay, and is unfortunately accompanied by cold and flu season. Get ahead of the game this year by eating right and taking vitamins to prevent illness. Here are some recommendations:
–Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables: oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, garlic, red peppers and mushrooms are recommended specifically for cold prevention.
–Drink Tea–All tea contains antioxidants called catechins which may have flu-fighting properties. Catechins may also increase metabolism and help protect against heart disease.
–Get plenty of rest. Listen to your body; running on all cylinders 24/7 is not healthy behavior. Take time to relax and make sure to get 8 hours of sleep a night.
–Take quality vitamins. Here at Ideal Chiropractic & Therapeutic Massage, we see great results with Standard Process vitamins. Their vitamins are made from food, so your body will recognize it and use it. Many other brands of vitamins are made synthetically in a lab and your body uses very little, if any of those types of vitamins because it is seen as a foreign substance. Popular vitamins this time of year include:
- Congaplex–contains vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and magnesium and is uses for short-term support of the immune system, or in other words, “I’m sick now!”
- Immuplex–contains vitamins A, C , E, B6, and B12, copper, folic acid, iron, zinc, chromium, and selenium. It is taken daily to prevent illness
- Echinacea–an herb that promotes healthy white blood cells which helps the immune system
Other vitamins are available. Dr. Serwe will discuss your needs and come up with vitamin recommendations specific for you. For more information or to setup a nutritional consultation, call Ideal Chiropractic & Therapeutic Massage at 907-1700.
